This Guy Installed Windows 95 on an Apple Watch

Technology has come a long way since the 1990s, when some computer hard drives topped out at 512MB.

But while innovation charges ahead, others look to the past for inspiration. Nick Lee—CTO of Tendigi mobile product design studio, and a child of the '90s—recently installed Windows 95 on his Apple Watch$699.99 at Apple Store.

"With a 520MHz processor, 512MB of RAM, and 8GB of internal storage, the Apple Watch packs a lot of computing horsepower into a very small package," he wrote in a blog post. "As a result, I was feeling confident that the Apple Watch had the ability to run one of the most revered desktop operating systems Redmond has ever produced."

Windows 95 featured added the much-loved Start button and taskbar, as well as A-list spokespeople like the Rolling Stones and Jennifer Aniston and Matthew Perry.

Now, Lee is sporting the 21-year-old OS on his wrist—and you can, too. The developer outlined the steps involved (which include patching certain files within a WatchKit app to load your own application code), and shared the code via GitHub. There appears to be little purpose to Lee's hacks, aside from a bit of schmaltz and bragging rights.

But this wasn't the first time he installed an old operating system on a watch: Last summer, Lee published a video (below) of his Apple smartwatch running Mac OS 7.5.5, which dates back to 1991.
